Yuma,AZ January 22nd--31st

Jan 22nd
A beautiful sunny day 80 Deg. F for the Canada Day Parade at 10:30 AM.
Bicycles, trucks and golf carts were decorated with banners and flags etc.
We dressed up in our Canadian attire and walked around the Resort.
The burger bash was another great time. Our neighbours Dan and Suzanne
sat with us. Saturday evening we went to a concert in the ballroom to see a comedian and
impressionalist,Rick Notale. He was funny and good.

Jan. 23rd
It was very windy today. We went to the Indoor Yuma Marketplace and ran into John and Lynda Brooks. After doing laundry and eating supper we played cards at Sid and Carols.

Jan 24th
The 4 of us golfed at the par 3 Westwinds Golf Club at 8:15 a.m. Very enjoyable. We had a good breakfast/brunch after golf. We invited Tony (he installed our toilet) and wife Helen, our neighbours Dan and Suzanne,Sid and Carol for margaritas and appetizers at 3 pm.

Jan25th
Sid picked us up at 8:30a.m. and we drove to Quartzsite(1.5 hours away). We spent the day shopping around the big RV tents, vendors and RV dealers. Thousands of RVers boondocking(dry camping) in the desert is a amazing thing to see. We played cards after arriving back at 6 pm.

Jan26th
We had pancakes and sausage at the resort breakfast and played shuffleboard until noon.
In the afternoon we drove 20 miles west to the Algodones sand dunes. We walked barefoot
up the mountains of sand and at times got sandblasted because of the wind. We stopped at the Peanut Patch and enjoyed homemade ice cream. We bought peanuts and homemade
peanut butter. In the evening we went ot the Karaode Superstar Contest.

Jan. 27th
We golfed again at the Westwinds for $11.00 each and had breakfast afterwards. We said good by to Al Kane. I had my hair cut in the afternoon. A Elvis impersonator performed at the rock and roll dance. He threw out teddy bears. We had a fun time.

Jan 28th
77 Deg. F and sunny. After playing shuffleboard we relaxed and read around the pool. The Palms Resort is a beautiful facility with large RV sites and lots of amenities. In the evening we went to the concert "Three Faces of The King" (Elvis). There were 3 Elvis impersonators--- the music was fantastic and by far the best concert so far.

Jan.29th
The burger bash had a band and a Elvis impersonator. 125 antique cars were on display in the parking lot. 2500 people were served hamburgers and beer. It was amazing. 80 Deg.F. We went grocery shopping and played cards later.

Jan.30th
We went over with our computer to Sid and Carols to exchange pictures. We backed up our data on our external hard drive( thanks for the gift,Karilee). It got cold and windy in the afternoon. Dan and Suzanne invited us for supper along with Tony, Helen,Sid and Carol. We played some Wii. It was a great meal and a good time.

Jan 31st
I did laundry and grocery shopping. We packed most things up for our move to Apache Junction tomorrow. We are going to supper at the Texas Road House with Sid and Carol. Sunny and 75 Deg. F today. The Yuma Palms RV Resort has been great. We hope to come back next year.

The Palms,Yuma,AZ-- Jan.13th to 21st

Jan.13th

We had Sid and Carol for breakfast. We went to the Wild Hogs Dance,7-10pm. We danced to "Doc Rock It" 50-60's music. Great rock and roll band and lots of fun. Free to in-park people.

Jan.14th

We played shuffleboard in the am and went to the Arizona Market in the afternoon. We bought a artificial palm tree with lights. It looks good in front of our 5th wheel. The evening concert

"A Tribute to ZZ Top,Eagles, and CCR" was very good.

Jan 15th

The days are getting very warm (mid 80's F). There was about 1500 people and 20 kegs of beer drank at the burger bash. --another terrific day in the sun with lots of Harley Davidson's on display. Carol and I finally had to do some laundry while Ralph and Sid watched football. We met our new neighbours Dan (retired RCMP) and Suzanne from Ottawa. Nice people.

Jan 16th

30 DEG. C We spent the day around the pool and the ice cream social. Sid and Carol invited us for dinner and cards. The bbq liver and onions was delicious.

Jan. 17th

It was a restful day of reading, swimming and relaxing after playing shuffleboard. The 4 of us drove to Quechan Casino just inside the California border 20 min west of Yuma. The buffet dinner for $9.99 and the $10.00 free play for getting the players card was a good deal.

Jan. 18th

I did some reading in the shade-- another 30 Deg. day. We went grocery shopping and had Sid and Carol for dinner. The boiled dinner in the slow cooker was a change from bbq-ing .

Jan.19th

This is Canada week at The Palms Resort. We wore our Canadian T shirts to the pancake breakfast. It was hard to find shade while playing shuffleboard. Most of the singers at the Karaoke Superstar Contest are good.

Jan.20th

We drove 30 miles east to Wellton and toured the area. We had lunch at the Coyote Wash Golf Club. The lever for the water to our toilet broke last night and we had to pick up a new toilet at the RV Dealer. Tony Thomas[the RV Medic from Okotoks staying at The Palms] installed it for us.

We met up with John and Lynda Brooks and their friends Gerald and Bev at Walmart. They are staying up the road at the Westwinds RV Resort. "The California Cowboys" played at the country and western dance in the ballroom.

Jan.21st

After shuffleboard I went for a pedicure and a gel nail fill while Ralph did grocery shopping at Walmart. In the evening we had tickets to "The Stars of Beatlemania". The sold out concert was excellent. They looked and sounded like the Beatles.

Yuma, AZ & Los Algodones,Mexico

Jan. 6th to 12th

Jan. 6th
Last night we enjoyed the Karaoke Superstar Contest in the Palms ballroom [every Wednesday 7-9 p.m.]. We went to the Arizona Market and picked up a few things. Afterwards we had a good visit with Al Kane at the Westwinds RV Resort. Al is a friend from Westbank, B.C. who we have not seen in 30 years.
Sid and Carol arrived at the resort from Las Vegas and we went out to dinner with them.

Jan 7th
We played two games of shuffleboard in the morning. Carol and I toured around the resort and bought some tickets for some shows at the resort.

Jan 8th
We enjoyed a sunny 70 deg. F day at the burger bash at the resort from noon to 3 pm.
We got a hamburger and all the beer you could drink for $2.50. and listened to a live band.
Lots of fun in the sun. In the evening we went to the Greg Bonham concert in the ballroom.
He is a Australian singer and trumpet player out of Las Vegas.

Jan.9th
Sid, Carol, Ralph and I went to the market place. It is open every Thursday to Sunday,8 am to 6 pm. We had lunch and listened to a live band at the market. The internet is sporadic so we went to the resort library and uploaded our photos to the blog.

Jan.10th
Ralph was at the shuffleboard courts at 7 am to help clean and get things ready for a 10 am start . Lunch was at Peter Piper Pizza. Dave's mobile wash and wax did our 5th wheel and truck. Great job for $100.00 (saved Marie a lot of scrubbing). We heard from the Howell's and Regan's.They are staying a couple of days in the Lake Havasu area. Sid and Carol invited us for supper. Afterwards we played the card game "oh hell".

Jan. 11th
We drove 15 miles to the USA/Mexican border. We walked across the border and shopped for bargains in Los Algodones, Mexico. We bought Kahlua and vanilla as well. We had a delicious lunch of shrimp tacos,margaritas/pina coladas while listening to a Mexican band. A
fun day.

Jan. 12th
We played shuffleboard in the morning(every Monday,Wednesday and Friday 10 to 12 am).
In the afternoon we drove out to the Imperial Dam and stopped for a date shake at the Imperial Date Farm. Very tasty. Carol and I split 11 lbs of dates. A UPS parcel arrived from our friends John and Sherryl from Louisiana. Thank you. The pralines are great. We enjoyed the musical talents at the Karaoke Superstar Contest. Afterwards we played the"oh hell"card game @ Sid & Carol's until after midnight.
We are really enjoying The Palms Resort--lots of activities, large R.V.sites,friendly people, etc.
The weather is sunny with a bit of wind at times.72 deg F/23 deg C today. It is suppose to be in the high 70's for the next week.It sounds wonderful!!!
